Be in and not Of
Discussing:
“Christians should separate from worldly culture.”
Thread starter's perspective:
God calls us to be in the world, however that does not mean to be of. I strongly agree that we should separate from the culture but i do not believe that means separating from society altogether as how will we then be lights in a dark world?

I agree. But I would take it a step further. Not only do we not "be of" the culture, we are called to influence culture. Genesis 1:28 is often called the Cultural Mandate: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
We are called to subdue the earth, meaning bring it into alignment with God's good intentions. In Christ, we have a restored status as image bearers, and with it comes the mandate to subdue to the Earth such that it is brought back into alignment with God and His desires. In Christ, this is the Kingdom of God and we are called to be ambassadors of this kingdom. We should be influencers (not the social media kind). We influence culture and the world for Christ and His kingdom.
